FAQ

Why don’t you have [insert codebook] available yet?

There are a limit to which books we can offer due to copyright reasons, but if there’s a specific one you’re looking for, let us know at the email below! We’re working on restoring publicly available scans of books all the time, but your vote helps us to prioritize what to work on.

We’re also limited by the books we have access to. If you possess a rare book or document that you’d like to submit for scanning, please contact us at contact@thesparkive.org

How are you able to offer books newer than the 95-year-old public domain cutoff?

The National Electrical Code actually is not copyrighted up until editions newer than 1963, when the 1992 copyright law retroactively enabled automatic copyright for all publications, starting in 1964. Amusingly (and we do not recommend investigating this, as it’s illegal), but that’s around the time frame where other scans of the NEC can be found elsewhere on the internet. We say this only because it clarifies our purpose of filling in the archival work for the versions of the NEC that are legally free to share.
